It happens in the communities we already work in, alongside our partner UTAMADUNI Organization. So far that's thousands of euros, and hundreds of people.
The work
Three things. Mostly the first one.
Food
Cooked with the children whose home it is, and eaten with them at the same table.
School
Fees, uniforms, books. School is home as much as it is school, so a term lost costs far more than lessons.
Growing their own
Seeds, tools and training, so the help stops being needed. That's the point of it.
Mombasa, Nairobi, Thika, Watamu, and more since, run on the ground with UTAMADUNI Organization.
How a day goes
A feeding day at Suvia Children's Home, hosted by Mr. Mwanzia with FessyTours. Most of ours look close to this one.
You will probably arrive picturing yourself helping. Instead, the children take the kitchen off you. They wash, they chop. You end up outside, losing a sack race to someone half your height. Before the meal they say grace together: Asante sana, asante Mungu, kwa chakula. Thank you very much. Thank God for the food. Everyone eats at the same table. When the plates are empty, somebody starts talking, and it turns serious fast. That school is worth finishing. That where they end up is not fixed yet, and that work, belief and staying at it are what decide it. That they are loved. The children take it better than you will. Then the music starts, and the rest of the afternoon is songs, poems and dancing, until you cannot tell who came to visit whom.

What your trip has to do with it
The first thing your trip does is put people to work. The guides, drivers and cooks are Kenyan, they are paid properly, and that happens on every day of every trip, not only on the days we cook. Steady work in the places we visit does more, over a year, than any number of good afternoons.
The visits are funded out of what the business earns and what our partners put in. Not out of a donation box, and not out of a surcharge on your booking.
If you'd rather be at a visit than just fund one, say so when you plan your trip and we'll arrange it. No extra charge, and no photo op.
